Meet Miss Sophie
Sophie Shipp Asay
It’s me, hi! I’m the teacher it’s me!
If you can’t tell from the little hint in the intro, I am a Swifty and love all things Taylor Swift! Seeing her in concert might be the second-best day of my life. The first was marrying my husband Mike Asay in the LDS Bountiful Utah temple! As newlyweds, I’ve been able to share my favorite things with him such as giving him a recap of the books I’ve been reading (anything Sarah J. Maas), watching The Vampire Diaries, playing games, eating Trader Joe’s goodies, and making weekly trips FIIZ to get my favorite Dirty Dr. Pepper. It has been so much fun! Along with sharing my favorite things, Mike has supported me in my passion for teaching! I used this passion to graduate from Utah Valley University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and an Associate of Science in Pre-Elementary Education.
My Dream Career
Before I moved to Utah, I grew up in Henderson, Nevada. At 16 I got my first job as a dance instructor at a studio named Dance Addiction. It was there that I first developed a love for teaching through dance! Though I love teaching all ages I made a special connection with the little ones. I fell in love with all of their little personalities. My junior year of High School, I had the opportunity to go to the Dominican Republic to build an Elementary School and teach English to the children there. On this trip my love for teaching was solidified. I decided to move to Utah to attend Utah Valley University and pursue an education. After four amazing years of studying Elementary Education, completing student teaching in Kindergarten, and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and an Associate in Science in Pre-Elementary Education from Utah Valley University, my dream career is finally coming true. I am taking what I have learned from my college experience, to apply the best principles I’ve been taught into my home-run preschool, so that your little one will be best prepared for Kindergarten! I can’t wait to meet you, and have an amazing school year!
Quotes
“It has been my pleasure to be a university supervisor for Miss. Sophie during her student teaching at Manila Elementary School. Sophie is a ‘bright light’ in the classroom. She designs lessons that are engaging with a gradual release of responsibility leading students to the learning targets. She implements these using a variety of instructional strategies that meet the needs of all learners. She is happy in the classroom, and I think students can tell- even these tiny students. She has the ability to manage the class well, maintaining safety and respect, while still making the learning fun. I'm more than happy to visit and highly recommend this very capable new educator.”

“The students in the classroom adore Sophie. She has built a caring relationship with each of the kids and shares little fun tidbits of her life and personality with the kids which makes them love her. They relate to her and respond well to her teaching. She has become well-practiced in different classroom management techniques and spotting the little ways she can differentiate for the needs in the classroom. Sophie worked hard with struggling students to help support their needs and she has prepped, planned, and assessed lessons for whole groups, small groups, and individuals to further their learning. Another great quality Sophie possesses is she comes each day with a positive attitude, and she is eager to start the day. She genuinely compliments others and jumps into teaching without hesitation. She has a kind and loving heart and is a joy to work with. It is with confidence that I would highly recommend Sophie Asay. She is a fantastic educator.”
